Description
The deer is considered the king of the forests around Munich. In the Middle Ages, hunting was still a privilege that the dukes and later the rich citizens of the city claimed for themselves. All others had no hunting rights and were regarded as poachers.
The most famous poacher in Munich was the robber Kneißl from Dachau. Because many pubs and festival tents are still decorated with antlers to this day, the stag is considered a symbol of Munich.
