Description
In Munich, pretzels are served for breakfast, with veal sausage or simply on their own. Court purveyor Jospeh Eilles employed the baker Anton Nepomuk Pfannenbrenner in his coffee house in Residenzstraße in 1893. Instead of sugar water, he brushed a caustic soda solution onto the previously sweet pretzels. This is how he invented the pretzel, which is a symbol of the city.
